What is hallmarking?
Hallmarking is the legal process of verifying and marking the purity of precious metals, confirming their origin, authenticity and quality.
How do I get jewellery hallmarking?
Hallmarking is built into our production. Cast with us and your pieces can be hallmarked in our sub-office, provided by the Birmingham assay office – often on the same day.
How much does it cost to get jewellery hallmarked?
We offer preferential per-piece pricing with no minimum parcel charges.
What can be hallmarked?
Anything can be hallmarked, but items over these minimum weights must be hallmarked: Gold (over 1g), Silver (over 7.78g), Platinum (over 0.5g), and Palladium (over 1g).
Why is hallmarking important?
Hallmarking is required by UK law for precious metals above certain weight thresholds. It confirms that your jewellery meets the legal fineness standards for gold, silver, platinum, or palladium, ensuring authenticity and quality.
What is the hallmark for gold?
Gold items over 1g require hallmarking under UK law to be sold as gold.
Each piece is marked with a sponsor’s mark, gold fineness (e.g. 375, 750), and the Birmingham Assay Office anchor.
At Weston Beamor, gold hallmarking is completed on-site, typically within 24 hours of casting.
What is the hallmark for silver?
Silver must be hallmarked if it weighs more than 7.78g, in line with UK legislation.
Standard marks include the sponsor’s mark, silver fineness (e.g. 925, 958), and the Birmingham hallmark.
We offer both traditional stamping and laser hallmarking through our on-site sub-assay office to suit the level of detail in each design.
