A Conversation with Naomi Newton-Sherlock

As Weston Beamor and Domino Jewellery prepare to come together as one integrated business this summer, our Creative Director, Naomi Newton-Sherlock, shares her thoughts about the role that heritage, craftsmanship and creativity will play in shaping the future of our business and the wider industry.

With more than 20 years of experience spanning design, manufacturing, retail and luxury jewellery, Naomi has spent her career helping turn ideas into reality while championing the skills, people and processes that sit behind great jewellery.

Jewellery manufacturing has a rich heritage. Why is that heritage so important as we look to the future?

Heritage gives us our foundation. It's where our skills, knowledge and values come from. At Weston Beamor, casting has been at the heart of what we do since 1947, and those decades of expertise have shaped the business we are today.

But heritage isn't about standing still. The best craftsmanship evolves. Every generation adds something new while respecting the skills and traditions that came before it. For me, that's what makes British jewellery manufacturing so special, it's constantly moving forward while remaining deeply connected to its roots.

How do you balance traditional craftsmanship with modern innovation?

The two should never be seen as opposite, but as two areas that complement one another.

Some of the most exciting work happens when traditional skills and modern technology come together. Whether it's CAD design, 3D printing, advanced casting techniques or hand finishing, every stage plays an important role in bringing a piece to life.

Technology allows us to work smarter, faster and more collaboratively, but it's still the experience, creativity and craftsmanship of our people that make the difference. Innovation is most powerful when it supports craft rather than replaces it.

Creativity has always been a defining part of both businesses. What does creativity mean to you?

Creativity isn't just about designing beautiful jewellery. It's about problem-solving, finding new ways to work, challenging assumptions and constantly asking how we can do things better. Creativity exists throughout the business, from the design team and workshop to customer service, marketing, manufacturing and product development.

The most successful businesses create an environment where ideas can come from anywhere, and that's something we've always valued.

As the businesses come together, what excites you most?

The opportunity for greater collaboration. Between us, we have expertise across casting, bespoke manufacturing, wedding rings, mounts and finished jewellery. Bringing those capabilities together creates an environment where ideas can move more freely, collaboration becomes easier and customers gain access to a broader range of services through a single business.

From a creative perspective, that's incredibly exciting because it opens up new possibilities for both our team and our customers.

What role do people play in preserving craftsmanship?

Our people are everything. Tools, technology and facilities are important, but craftsmanship ultimately lives within people. It's passed from one person to the next through experience, mentorship and a shared passion for making things well.

One of the things I'm most proud of is the depth of talent we have across both businesses. We have individuals with decades of experience working alongside people who are bringing fresh ideas and perspectives into the industry. That balance is what keeps craftsmanship alive and ensures it continues to evolve.

Looking ahead, what do you hope customers will see from the new integrated business?

I hope they see a business that combines heritage with ambition. A business that remains deeply committed to craftsmanship and quality, while continuing to invest in innovation, creativity and customer experience.

Most importantly, I hope they see that while we're evolving, the things that have always mattered - exceptional service, quality, technical expertise, creativity and British manufacturing - remain firmly at the heart of everything we do.
